Specialty German Liquors and Cocktails

A LIST OF GERMAN LIQUORS OFFERED AT THE ALPINE MARKET AND 10 GERMAN MIXED DRINK RECIPES

Germans are of course known for their beer, but I have a lot of friends who prefer liquor when it comes to their social drinking activities, so for them I decided to compile a list of the specialty German liquors we offer at the Alpine Market and some tasty German cocktail recipes that any drinker will enjoy.  First, I had to go shopping.

I met up with Silvia Bennett our market manager here at Alpine Village, and she took me on a tour of the liquor department.  The first thing I noticed is that everything in the market is easy to locate and reach.  I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the mass and excess that you see in the big liquor and wine stores.  Even without all that bulk, the Alpine Market liquor section did not skimp on variety.  There were more German, Swiss, and Austrian liquors than I’ve ever seen in one location, and more then I could get through in an entire year, not that that would stop me from trying.   There were all of the German liquor staples such as “Danzig Goldwasser,” “Asbach Uralt Brandy,” and “Bärenjäger”, but Silvia also pointed out some very hard to find brands like “Bauer’s Obstler” an Austrian apple and pear brandy, “Helbing” a German cream liqueur, and “Stroh 80” an Austrian rum that can be lit on fire for flaming cocktails.  She showed me one of her favorites from Salzburg, “Nannerl Früchte Spezialität” an apricot liqueur with actual pieces of apricot in it.  I can’t wait to try that one.

I picked out just a few of these liquors and I’ve listed them below for you to check out for yourself.  And while all of the beverages are great on their own, I put together some very delicious cocktail recipes because drinking can be more fun with a little mixology.  So be sure to add these to your shopping list the next time you visit us at the Alpine Market, and if you have any cocktail recipes of your own feel free to share them below in the comments section.  Prost!
